ANWAR MAQSOOD (20TH/21ST CENTURY), AN ABSTRACT CALLIGRAPHIC COMPOSITION IN THE HURUFIYYAH STYLE - A gouache or mixed-media painting on paper, presenting an abstract Hurufiyyah composition. The work features stylized Arabic calligraphy rendered in blue with gold-toned highlights, set against a background of flat, bold colour blocks in red, yellow, blue, and brown. The design incorporates a yellow celestial disc in the upper left and simplified floral motifs at the base. The piece is signed Anwar 24 in black ink at the bottom centre. It is presented within a double mount and a substantial dark-stained wooden frame with a carved foliate inner border and a gilded slip, set behind glass. A metal plaque is attached to the lower frame member, inscribed Summer Roses by Gustav, which appears to be a misattribution or from a previous framing, as it contradicts the artist's signature and subject matter.
