A MUGHAL CARVED PALE CELADON JADE HILT, 19TH CENTURY. - A carved pale celadon jade dagger hilt. The piece is fashioned from a translucent nephrite jade of a pale celadon to greyish-white hue, displaying characteristic natural cloudy inclusions and areas of darker russet-coloured skin from the original pebble at the upper section. The pommel is intricately carved in the round as three lotus pods or flower buds emerging from a flared, petal-form neck. The central grip section is of baluster form, bordered at the top and bottom by raised bands carved with a twisted-rope motif. The body of the grip is decorated in low relief with a flowering lotus plant featuring a central blossom and flanking buds rising from a stylized foliate base. The guard section terminates in wide, twin-scrolled flared ends with ruyi-head terminals, further embellished with incised floral and foliate scrolls. L: Approximately 13.5cm
