A QAJAR PORTRAIT OF A PERSIAN ROYAL, LIKELY MOZAFFAR AD-DIN SHAH, OIL ON CANVAS, 19TH CENTURY. - This oil on canvas portrait is executed in the Persian Qajar style and depicts a high-ranking royal figure, identified by iconography as Mozaffar ad-Din Shah. The subject is portrayed three-quarter length, seated in an ornate gilded armchair. He is dressed in formal court attire, including a tall black lambskin hat known as a kolah and a dark tunic featuring extensive gold floral zardozi embroidery at the collar, cuffs, and hem. On his chest are two large silver sunburst medals worn over a pale blue sash, and he wears a jewelled belt with a central buckle. Across his lap lies a shamshir with a reddish-brown scabbard and jewelled metal mounts. He holds a slender, decorated walking stick in his right hand. The facial features, including the joined eyebrows and prominent mustache, are characteristic of Qajar royal portraiture.
