SIGNED OTTOMAN STYLE CALLIGRAPHIC LEVHA, DATED 1360 AH. - A framed Arabic calligraphic panel, known as a levha, executed in ink and polychrome pigments on a cream-toned paper ground. The central composition is written in bold Jali Thuluth script and reads: أحب الله من أحب حسينا (Allah loves those who love Hussain). This is flanked by two horizontal panels in a smaller Naskh script. The top panel reads: قال جد الحسنين صلوات الله عليه وسلامه (Said the grandfather of the two Hasans, blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). The bottom panel reads: وقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: أحب أهل بيتي إليّ الحسن والحسين (And the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: The most beloved of my household to me are al-Hasan and al-Husayn). The calligraphy is set within an illuminated border (tehzib) featuring a repeating scrolling foliate and floral pattern rendered in shades of pink, cream, and gold against a blue background. The panel is enclosed by fine gold and red ruled borders. A calligraphic signature block is located centrally beneath the large script, identifying the calligrapher as Muhammad Naji (محمد ناجي). It is dated in Eastern Arabic numerals as 1360 AH, corresponding to approximately 1941 CE.  Approximately 94 x 63.5cm
