A PERSIAN ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT LEAF DEPICTING A BATTLE SCENE, 19TH CENTURY. - This manuscript leaf features a dynamic and densely populated miniature painting depicting a chaotic battle scene set within a stylized rocky landscape. The composition illustrates two opposing forces engaged in close-quarters combat on foot and on horseback. The figures are rendered with characteristic Persianate features, wearing a variety of period attire including turbans, pointed helmets, and mail-and-plate armour. They are armed with an array of weaponry, including curved swords (shamshirs), lances adorned with red pennons, and bows. The landscape is defined by bulbous, stylized rock formations in shades of pink and mauve, set against a narrow strip of sky at the top. The palette includes blue, ochre, red, and green pigments.
