OTTOMAN SCHOOL, 19TH CENTURY, COSMOLOGICAL DIAGRAM OF HEAVEN AND HELL. - An Ottoman school cosmological diagram, executed in watercolour and gouache on paper, depicting a theological map of the universe and the afterlife in the style of illustrations found in the Marifetname. The composition is structured in three distinct horizontal registers. The uppermost section represents the divine realms and Paradise, featuring a large yellow horn, likely the Trumpet of Israfil, and the Lote-tree of the Utmost Boundary (Sidrat al-Muntaha) positioned above tiered levels identifying various celestial stations. The central portion shows the Kaaba situated at the heart of concentric arches representing the celestial spheres, with circular motifs for the sun and moon on either side. The lower register depicts the depths of Hell (Jahannam) containing the Zaqqum tree. The work is densely inscribed with Arabic calligraphic script identifying various metaphysical locations and stations, including Al-Lawh al-Mahfuz (The Preserved Tablet). Approximately 58.5 x 42cm
