A SAFAIVD TINNED COPPER KASHKUL, 17TH CENTURY. - A Persian kashkul, or beggar's bowl, dating to the Safavid period of the 17th century. It follows a traditional boat-like form. A central band contains a continuous calligraphic inscription in Thuluth or Naskh script, set against a ground of scrolling foliate motifs. Below this, a wide frieze depicts a hunting scene known as a shikargah, featuring mounted figures with weapons pursuing deer and hares amidst dense floral arabesques. The vessel's upturned terminals are fashioned as stylized dragon heads with open jaws and crests inset with small turquoise-coloured cabochons. The rim is finished with a twisted rope-style border. The bowl sits on a small, integral oval foot. H: Approximately 22.5cm L: Approximately 41.5cm
