A PERSIAN SILVER SIGNET RING SET WITH CARNELIAN INTAGLIO AND TURQUOISE CABOCHONS. - A Persian silver signet ring, possibly an archer's ring (zihgir) in form, dating to the Qajar period. The bulbous body is extensively decorated with hand-chased and engraved foliate scrolls and palmette motifs. These decorative elements are set against a darkened, niello-like ground to provide high contrast. The ring is set with four circular turquoise cabochons in raised, smooth-rimmed bezel settings positioned around the body. The top face features a flush-set circular carnelian (sard) intaglio seal. The stone is deeply incised with a personal name in fluid Nasta'liq script, featuring a patronymic format including the Arabic word bin (son of).
