AN ISLAMIC SILVER AND CARNELIAN TALISMANIC SIGNET RING. - An Islamic talismanic signet ring featuring a large carnelian intaglio set in a silver mount. The ring is set with an oval, flat-topped carnelian cabochon of a reddish-brown hue. The face of the stone is deeply incised with two registers of calligraphic script, separated by a horizontal line and surrounded by decorative engraved C-scrolls and small six-pointed stars. The heavy bezel setting features a repeating geometric border around its edge. The underside of the mount and the wide, tapered shank are intricately hand-engraved with foliate and leaf-frond patterns. The setting is open to the reverse, exposing the back of the gemstone.
