A PERSIAN TRIBAL SILVER AND GILT METAL MULTI STRAND COIN PECTORAL NECKLACE. - A large Persian tribal style multi strand pectoral or bib necklace featuring decorative metalwork and numerous coins. The construction comprises two large horizontal repousse panels with scrolling foliate and geometric motifs, finished in a gilt tone. These panels are connected by vertical rows of silver coins and four draped trace chains, each suspending a pair of small spherical bell drops. The upper section consists of a single strand of silver toned coin links. The piece terminates in a trio of large heart shaped asik style pendants with matching repousse work. The necklace is set with sixteen oval and round glass cabochons in saturated shades of red, forest green, and cobalt blue. The coins incorporated into the design include silver examples featuring the Persian Lion and Sun motif (Shir-o-khorshid), showing a lion with a sword against a rising sun within a wreath. The gilt toned coins feature central calligraphic script within decorative borders. The necklace is finished with a black braided textile cord featuring a loop and knot toggle closure.
