Bidspirit auction | A SAFAVID SILVER-INLAID AND TINNED-COPPER

A SAFAVID SILVER-INLAID AND TINNED-COPPER BOWL, PERSIA, 17TH CENTURY. - This is a Persian footed bowl, identified by stylistic consensus as Safavid and dating to the 17th century. The vessel is constructed from a copper base and features extensive silver-inlaid decoration against a darkened, patinated ground. A broad horizontal band of calligraphic inscription in Nasta'liq script encircles the upper flared rim. The main body is decorated with a dense, symmetrical pattern of islimi scrolling arabesques, incorporating large interlocking split-leaf palmettes and floral motifs. The lower section of the bowl transitions into finer, more delicate foliate patterns. The vessel sits on a low, spreading pedestal foot embellished with a repeating border of pointed arches or mihrab shapes, each containing a small floral motif.  H: Approximately 10.4cm D: Approximately 17.3cm
