AN IRANIAN ENGRAVED WHITE METAL LIDDED BOX WITH CALLIGRAPHIC DECORATION. - An Iranian (Persian) rectangular lidded box constructed from white metal, . The exterior is intricately decorated throughout with traditional Persian metalwork techniques known as Ghalamzani, characteristic of the late Qajar to early Pahlavi periods. The lid features a central rectangular panel containing four groups of highly stylised calligraphic script, likely in Persian or Arabic. This panel is flanked by vertical bands of repeating geometric six-pointed star patterns. The entire composition is framed within multiple borders of dense, finely chased scrolling foliage and arabesque floral motifs known as islimi. A decorative cartouche with a stylised floral or feathered motif is applied to the centre of the front edge. The recessed areas of the chasing show an oxidised finish to provide contrast against the polished surface.  Approximately 2.7 x 20 x 9.5cm
