AN INDO-PERSIAN STEEL DOUBLE-HEADED AXE HEAD TABARZIN. - This lot comprises a double-headed steel axe head, known as a tabarzin, of Indo-Persian form. The object features two symmetrical crescent-shaped blades extending from a central faceted socket. The entire exterior surface is decorated with koftgari inlay, a technique where wire is applied to a textured steel ground. The decoration on each blade face comprises a central cartouche depicting birds amidst floral and foliate scrolls. These central motifs are enclosed by wide borders of dense, interlocking arabesque patterns known as islimi. Stylised calligraphic script is present in bands where the blades meet the central socket; the characters are interlocking and decorative in nature. The central eye is faceted and embellished with coordinating floral sprays and geometric borders.  H: Approximately 13cm L: Approximately 29.5cm
