Bidspirit auction | A PERSIAN ENGRAVED AND CHASED

A PERSIAN ENGRAVED AND CHASED BRASS PLATE. - A circular brass plate of shallow form with a narrow raised rim. The entire upper surface is decorated with dense hand-engraved and chased ornamentation. The layout is centred on a circular medallion containing a complex radiating geometric and foliate design. This central motif is encircled by ten oval cartouches, each depicting a different figurative scene, including seated musicians, riders on animals, and hunters in traditional attire. The negative space between the cartouches is filled with finely executed foliate arabesque scrolls set against a darkened, patinated ground. The outer border consists of several concentric bands featuring repeating 'S' scrolls, trefoil patterns, and interlocking foliate vines. The style and decorative programme are characteristic of metalwork produced in centres such as Isfahan or Cairo during the late 19th century.  D: Approximately 25.5cm
