A QAJAR STYLE OPENWORK STEEL PEACOCK INCENSE BURNER. - A decorative incense burner in the form of a standing peacock. The piece is constructed from steel with extensive pierced openwork, or ajoure, to the body and tail. It features fine engraving and traces of gold-coloured damascening, known as Koftgari, to the neck, head, and plinth. The hollow ovoid body is hinged at the front to allow for the placement of incense, with the pierced work serving as a vent. The fanned tail displays a scalloped edge and contains circular medallions with stylised floral motifs set within foliate scrolling. The bird stands on a rectangular plinth supported by four bracket feet, with the top and sides decorated with matching foliate engraving and a border of gold-coloured inlay. The neck is decorated with scrolling foliate designs leading to a crested head and an open beak.  H: Approximately 53cm
