Bidspirit auction | A SILVER AND HEMATITE TALISMANIC
A SILVER AND HEMATITE TALISMANIC SEAL OF SOLOMON RING. - A silver talismanic ring featuring a large, oval hematite stone bezel intricately engraved with religious and protective motifs. The central iconography consists of a six-pointed star, known as the Seal of Solomon or Khatam Suleiman, composed of interlaced lines. The interior of the star and the surrounding fields are densely filled with fine calligraphy. The script is Arabic rather than Hebrew, with the word Allah clearly legible within the upper point of the hexagram. The central circular motif within the star contains stylized characters, including three vertical strokes or alifs. A continuous band of micro-calligraphy runs around the outer perimeter of the stone, typical of protective verses intended to ward off the evil eye. The silver mount is decorated with traditional Middle Eastern or North African jewellery motifs, featuring openwork teardrop-shaped apertures on the shoulders and a border of small, raised beads or granulation around the bezel. While the inscriptions are Islamic, the Seal of Solomon holds significant Kabbalistic and spiritual importance across the Mediterranean and Middle East, serving as a shared symbol for protection and guidance in both Jewish and Islamic mystical traditions.
