AN ISLAMIC SILVER AND INSCRIBED CARNELIAN SIGNET RING. - An Islamic signet ring featuring a large, rectangular, flat-topped carnelian stone of a translucent orange-red colour. The stone, often referred to as aqeeq, is intaglio-carved with fine calligraphic script, likely in Arabic or Persian, surrounded by delicate floral and foliate motifs. It is held in a two-sided bezel mount above a gallery with a decorative serrated edge. The shoulders and shank feature intricate openwork pierced designs with scrolling and foliate motifs.
