A QAJAR DAMASCENED COPPER KASHKUL (BEGGAR’S BOWL). - A Persian copper kashkul, or dervishs bowl, in the style of the Qajar period, featuring extensive brass damascened decoration. The vessel is of traditional boat-like form with a trilobed scalloped opening at the top and two suspension rings attached at the tapered ends. The exterior surface is densely ornamented across several distinct registers. The central horizontal band features a continuous calligraphic inscription in a refined cursive script. Below this, the lower body is decorated with circular medallions depicting various figures in traditional attire, including a seated sage and a standing figure with raised arms, interspersed with medallions of felines set against a background of dense floral scrolls and money-pattern blossoms. The upper shoulders are decorated with gazelles amidst scrolling foliage. The base of the bowl features a large, central oval medallion depicting a hunting scene with two figures on horseback, surrounded by smaller animals and decorative borders.
