A LATE OTTOMAN EMBROIDERED CALLIGRAPHIC PANEL DATED 1327 AH. - This late Ottoman embroidered panel is a calligraphic textile featuring a central lobed medallion on a red ground set against a pale olive-green base. The central decoration is worked in metallic gold-wrapped thread using a couching technique, creating raised and textured calligraphic characters and borders. The primary calligraphic composition is arranged in a form reminiscent of an imperial tuğra and centres on the name Muhammad. The calligraphy is surrounded by scrolling foliate patterns and floral sprigs within the red cartouche. At the base of the embroidered section is a handwritten inscription in black ink reading Amal Kamal (the work of Kemal) alongside the Hijri date 1327, corresponding to approximately 1909 to 1910 AD. The edges of the silk are finished with a simple whip-stitch. Approximately 75 x 64cm
