Bidspirit auction | A SET OF FOUR INDIAN

A SET OF FOUR INDIAN EROTIC KAMA SUTRA MINIATURE PAINTINGS. - A set of four Indian miniature paintings depicting erotic scenes, executed in watercolour and gouache on hand-made paper. These works are characteristic of the 20th-century Indian School, drawing inspiration from the Kama Sutra and Shringara artistic traditions. Each illustration depicts a couple in an intimate position within a domestic interior. The figures are rendered with fine linear detail and stylised features, adorned with traditional jewellery and clothing. The colour palette comprises earthy tones for the figures and backgrounds, contrasted with more vibrant pigments such as yellow, pink, and green in the textiles. The paper supports feature irregular, hand-cut edges, which is consistent with pages removed from a larger sketchbook or portfolio.
