AN OTTOMAN FRAMED CALLIGRAPHIC SHAMSA COMPOSITION, SIGNED ABD AL-RAZZAQ. - A framed calligraphic composition executed in black ink and gold-toned pigment on toned paper, presented in the form of a shamsa or sunburst. The central circular medallion contains the name of the Prophet Muhammad in Thuluth script, from which gold-coloured rays emanate. This central element is surrounded by a complex, radially symmetrical composition forming an eight-pointed star or floral shape. The larger petal-like sections contain the names of the Panj-tan-e Pak, including Ali, Fatima, Hasan, and Husayn, intertwined with further religious invocations. The composition is punctuated by small square geometric motifs. The artwork bears a calligraphic signature at the bottom centre that reads Katabahu al-faqir Abd al-Razzaq, translating to Written by the humble servant Abd al-Razzaq. The piece is presented in a black mat and housed within a glazed dark wood frame featuring a gold-tone inner fillet. Approximately 40 x 34.5cm
