AN OTTOMAN STEEL CALLIGRAPHER'S SCISSORS. - A rare pair of Ottoman steel calligrapher's scissors of elongated form, forged with slender tapering blades and distinctive openwork loop handles. The pierced handles terminate in decorative finger rings with subtly shaped contours, characteristic of traditional Ottoman metalworking. Designed for the precise cutting of paper and preparation of writing materials, such scissors would have formed part of a calligrapher's writing set (takım), used in the production of Qur'anic manuscripts, official documents, and other works of Islamic calligraphy.
