A QAJAR PORTRAIT OF FATH-ALI SHAH QAJAR, 19TH CENTURY. - This Qajar painting depicts Fath-Ali Shah Qajar (r. 1797-1834) from the waist up. The subject is rendered with a long, dense black beard and wears the iconic Kiani crown, which is heavily embellished with gold and white pigments to simulate pearls and precious gemstones. He is dressed in a vibrant red robe, similarly adorned with intricate jewellery patterns across the shoulders, sleeves, and chest. The Shah is shown with his left hand resting on the hilt of a gold-coloured sword and his right hand placed on his hip. To the right of the figure is a lobed, blue-ground cartouche containing stylized gold-coloured calligraphy. The work is executed in opaque pigments with gold highlights on a tan-coloured paper. The painting is housed in a black inner mount within a gilt-finished wooden frame. Approximately 33.2 x 24.5cm
