A MUGHAL-STYLE INSCRIBED JADE TALISMANIC PENDANT. - A Mughal-style carved dark green jade talismanic pendant of distinctive heart-shaped form, densely engraved to both faces with calligraphic and talismanic inscriptions. The pendant is surmounted by an integral transverse suspension loop and has a finely serrated or scalloped outer border. One face is arranged around a central heart-shaped cartouche containing several horizontal registers of Arabic-script inscription, surrounded by further bands of flowing calligraphy extending around the perimeter. The reverse follows a similar concentric arrangement but incorporates numerous numerical and talismanic characters, characteristic of protective amuletic compositions employing letters, numbers and magical formulae.
