A PAIR OF QAJAR PERSIAN STEEL BAZU BANDS, 19TH CENTURY. - A pair of 19th-century Qajar Persian steel bazu bands (forearm guards) of traditional two-plate construction. Each guard comprises a long, curved main plate designed for forearm protection, joined by iron hinges to a shorter, pointed plate for the back of the hand. The exterior surfaces are elaborately decorated with chiselled and engraved floral motifs. A central lobed medallion on each main plate contains a large multi-petalled flower, surrounded by a dense field of scrolling foliate vines and blossoms. The borders are defined by a continuous band of scrolling floral decoration. L: Approximately 26.5cm
