A SELJUK KHORASAN BRONZE EWER WITH CALLIGRAPHIC AND FIGURATIVE DECORATION, 11TH-12TH CENTURY. - A medieval Seljuk bronze ewer from the Khorasan region, dating to approximately the 11th to 12th century. The vessel is constructed of cast copper alloy and features a tall, cylindrical body with a flat, stepped shoulder. The neck is decorated with two relief-molded zoomorphic figures, possibly felines, positioned on opposite sides. A tall, arching handle with a rectangular cross-section is attached to the rim and shoulder, opposite a flared, upward-slanting spout. The exterior surface is embellished with intricate incised and engraved ornamentation. The shoulder contains a continuous horizontal band of stylized Kufic calligraphy interwoven with scrolling foliate motifs. The main body is decorated with several distinct registers, including an arched panel depicting a rider on horseback, flanked by stylized tree of life motifs and circular medallions containing interlace patterns.
