A QAJAR EROTIC MINIATURE PAINTING, 19TH CENTURY. - An erotic miniature painting from the Qajar period, Persia, dating to the 19th century. The work is executed in opaque watercolour and gold pigment on paper. The scene depicts a man and a woman in a sexual embrace within an interior setting. The figures exhibit characteristic Qajar aesthetic features, including heavy joined eyebrows and almond-shaped eyes. The man is dressed in a long-sleeved blue tunic, and the woman wears a patterned pink jacket. They are positioned on a white rectangular mat with a golden border, laid over a purple floor decorated with small floral sprigs. The scene is framed by a window architectural detail featuring draped curtains, with a purple curtain to the left and a red curtain to the right. A single red ornament hangs from the top centre of the window frame. Through the window, a landscape is visible featuring a solitary tree with tufted foliage set against a sunset sky with distant hills.
