A QAJAR STYLE PORTRAIT OF TWO SISTERS OIL ON CANVAS, POSSIBLY 19TH CENTURY. - An oil painting on canvas depicting two female figures, traditionally identified as twins or sisters, executed in the Qajar style. The figures are shown from the waist up against a dark mottled background. The figure to the left wears a red robe, while the figure to the right is dressed in a dark blue garment. Both robes are embellished with wide borders and vertical panels decorated with patterns of pearls and gemstones, rendered in textured paint to simulate jewellery. The figures wear elaborate headdresses, or jighas, adorned with floral motifs and feathers. Facial features include the characteristic joined eyebrows, large dark eyes, and small mouths associated with nineteenth-century Persian court portraiture. The figure on the right holds a single rose in her left hand. The composition follows established tropes of the Iranian School from the Qajar period. Approximately 71.5 x 52cm
