A MAMLUK STYLE ENGRAVED BRASS EWER AND MATCHING BASIN SET. - A matching ewer (aftaba) and basin (chilamchi) set crafted from chased and engraved yellow metal, likely brass. The ewer is designed with a distinctive hexagonal body, a tall tapering neck featuring a central globular knop, and a curved handle. The long, arched spout terminates in a stylised zoomorphic head, and the vessel is fitted with a hinged, domed lid surmounted by a multi-tiered finial. The matching basin is of wide, shallow form with a broad, flared rim and a central recessed well. It contains a removable, pierced drainage cover decorated with a complex interlaced openwork design and a central knob. Both pieces are profusely decorated throughout with dense, incised ornamentation. The central hexagonal panels of the ewer and the scrolling cartouches on the basin rim contain fluid Arabic calligraphy in Naskh or Thuluth script. These panels are surrounded by backgrounds of geometric interlace (girih), foliate arabesques, and braided guilloche borders.  H of Ewer: Approximately 52cm D of Basin: Approximately 38cm
