A SELJUK STYLE BRONZE SILVER-INLAID PIERCED INCENSE BURNER OR LANTERN. - A Seljuk style bronze incense burner or lantern of truncated pyramidal form, constructed from cast copper alloy. The body consists of three primary panels, each decorated with intricate hand-pierced openwork (ajouré) featuring a central field depicting a stylised avian creature or harpy within foliate scrollwork. These central motifs are flanked by vertical bands of cast calligraphy in a stylised Kufic script. The upper and lower edges of each panel are bordered by rows of vertical openwork slits. The top rim is surmounted by three cast finials in the shape of birds, and the vessel is supported by three small integral feet. The interior is hollow, designed to hold coals or a lamp, allowing light to pass through the pierced decoration and smoke to escape. H: Approximately 25cm
