A CENTRAL ASIAN BRASS HAND SEAL WITH SILVER-INLAID INTERLACED KNOTWORK, 19TH CENTURY. - An brass hand seal, likely of Himalayan or Central Asian origin. The object features a circular flared base rising to a baluster-turned stem and a flattened handle terminating in a notched, crescent-shaped finial. The matrix is deeply engraved with a complex, four-fold symmetrical interlaced knotwork pattern, with stylised foliate motifs at the cardinal points. Traces of a silver-coloured material, possibly silver inlay or damascene, remain within the recesses of the matrix. The handle is decorated on one side with an incised Srivatsa (endless knot) and a geometric triangular symbol, while the reverse features V-shaped incisions. A band of continuous interlaced guilloche decoration is cast around the outer edge of the base. H: Approximately 8.3cm
