AN INDO-PERSIAN FLUTED BRASS SILVER-INLAID TURBAN HELMET KULAH KHUD. - An Indo-Persian fluted helmet, also known as a turban helmet or Kulah Khud. The helmet features a domed bowl constructed from brass or a gilt-copper alloy (tombak) with deep vertical fluting. The surface is densely decorated with acid-etched and engraved foliate scrolls and rinceaux patterns within each flute. The helmet is surmounted by a tall, tapered, and turned brass spike finial. A sliding steel nasal guard is attached to the front via a bracket, featuring decorative lobed terminals engraved with matching foliate motifs. Two distinct horizontal bands of calligraphy in a stylized thuluth or naskh hand encircle the helmet, containing characters such as alif, lam, and waw, typically representing protective Qur'anic verses or religious invocations. A short mail aventail of butted iron rings is attached to the lower rim by a series of rivets. H: Approximately 54cm (incl. chainmail)
