AN ISLAMIC SILVER AND CARNELIAN INTAGLIO CALLIGRAPHIC SEAL RING. - An Islamic seal ring featuring a central oval carnelian gemstone, often referred to as aqeeq. The translucent reddish orange stone is intricately hand engraved with dense Arabic calligraphy in a circular intaglio composition, typical of religious or protective inscriptions found in Middle Eastern and Persian cultures. The carnelian is held within a high profile silver toned metal bezel characterised by a decorative scalloped or crenulated edge. The shoulders and shank of the ring are detailed with elaborate hand pierced openwork, also known as ajoure, featuring scrolling foliate motifs that extend around the band.
