A BURMESE OR NORTHERN SIAMESE SILVER-MOUNTED SWORD WITH ENAMELLED HILT, 19TH CENTURY. - A Burmese or Northern Siamese sword, the long, gently curved single-edged steel blade terminating in a pointed tip and fitted with an elaborate silver-mounted hilt and matching scabbard. The distinctive curved hilt is finely worked with a dense textured surface and decorated at either end with bands of polychrome enamel, comprising turquoise-blue, green and amber-coloured motifs within silver wire borders. The grip terminates in a pointed, leaf-like form, giving the weapon an elegant and highly decorative profile. The blade is housed within a long silver-covered scabbard, divided by a series of narrow moulded bands and terminating in a rounded end cap. The restrained treatment of the scabbard contrasts effectively with the richly ornamented enamelled hilt. L: Approximately 39cm
