AN ISLAMIC SILVER AND CARNELIAN CALLIGRAPHIC SIGNET RING. - An Islamic signet or amulet ring featuring a large, oval, flat-cut carnelian stone, traditionally known as aqiq. The stone is deeply intaglio-engraved with calligraphy in Nasta'liq script. The central inscription is contained within a lobed cartouche and reads La quwwata illa billah (There is no power but in God). This central section is surrounded by four lobed compartments containing religious invocations, including Ya Allah (O God) and Ya Muhammad. The stone is secured in a tall, straight-sided white metal bezel decorated with a series of vertical notches or toothed engravings around the upper rim. The setting is supported by a simple split-shouldered band.
