A SAFAVID TINNED COPPER KASHKUL BEGGARS BOWL, 17TH CENTURY. - A Persian kashkul or dervish's beggar's bowl of traditional boat-shaped form, dating to the17th century. The vessel is constructed from a hammered copper alloy with a dark patinated and partially tinned surface. The exterior is densely decorated with horizontal registers of fine engraving and metal inlay. The upper band consists of a series of lobed cartouches containing calligraphic inscriptions in Nasta'liq script, featuring religious invocations including Ya Ali and Al-Salam. Below the calligraphy, the body is worked with a broad band of interlocking quatrefoil lattice work, with each compartment filled with stylized floral islimi sprays. The underside of the bowl features a recessed, lobed quatrefoil panel containing a central floral medallion surrounded by dense arabesque scrolls. H: Approximately 11cm L: Approximately 21cm
