A PERSIAN SILVER AND CARNELIAN INTAGLIO DESK SEAL. - A Persian desk seal comprising an oval carnelian intaglio set in a silver mount. The orange-red carnelian is finely engraved with Persian calligraphy in Nasta'liq script, interspersed with small floral sprigs and decorative diacritic marks. The stone is secured within a plain silver bezel. The tapering openwork handle is constructed from multiple vertical silver ribs, decorated with small applied four-petaled silver flowers. The handle terminates in a multi-faceted, tiered knop with an integrated suspension ring.
