AN OTTOMAN STYLE CALLIGRAPHIC TALISMANIC SHIRT. - An Ottoman style calligraphic talismanic shirt (jama) of tunic form, constructed from heavily sized cotton and decorated with black ink, polychrome pigments, and shell gold. The front of the garment features two central pink lobed medallions inscribed with the names Allah and Muhammad in bold Thuluth script. Four light-blue medallions at the corners contain the names of the Rashidun Caliphs: Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali. A large green crescent contains the Tasbih prayer, surrounding a central blue medallion inscribed with the names of the Prophet's grandsons, Hasan and Husayn. The outer vertical borders are finely inscribed with the Ayat al-Kursi (Verse of the Throne, Quran 2:255), while horizontal bands contain Surah al-Ikhlas and other devotional prayers. The shoulders feature yellow cartouches with the Bismillah and Alhamdulillah. The reverse displays a large central blue cartouche containing the Shahada. Four circular red medallions at the corners name the four archangels: Jibra'il, Mika'il, Israfil, and Azra'il. The remaining field is decorated with intricate gold-painted scrolling vines and floral motifs on a light ground. H: Approximately 70cm L: Approximately 50cm
