AN INDO-PERSIAN CALLIGRAPHIC MICROGRAPHY PANEL OF THE COMPLETE QURAN ON VELLUM. - A large calligraphic micrography panel executed on a single sheet of fine vellum, subsequently mounted onto a larger paper support sheet for stabilisation. The work contains the complete text of the Quran, transcribed in extremely fine black ghubar (dust) script. The composition is arranged in a circular format resembling a stylised parasol or a schematic plan of a dome, divided into twenty-four radiating segments by broad bands of gold illumination. A vertical section, resembling a handle or finial, extends from the top of the central form. The central hub and the lower portion of the vertical extension are decorated with intricate blue and gold foliate scrollwork. Within the radiating segments, the start of each surah is marked by the Bismillah phrase written in red ink. The outer perimeter features a scalloped border, with each peak decorated with a small blue floral tezhip (illumination) motif. The piece demonstrates the high level of technical skill required for micrography combined with traditional manuscript illumination techniques using gold leaf and blue pigments.
