A SELJUK SILVER AND NIELLO PECTORAL PENDANT, PERSIA, 12TH CENTURY. - A Seljuk silver and niello pectoral pendant, Persia, circa 12th century. The pendant is of crescent or lunette form, constructed from joined silver-alloy plates with engraved and niello-inlaid decoration. The obverse is decorated with a large panel of bold, stylized foliated Kufic calligraphy set against a darkened ground, with a further narrow band of script situated above. The reverse is embellished with three circular medallions containing complex interlaced vegetal scrolls and foliate motifs, bordered along the upper inner curve by a Greek key meander pattern. The item features two conical terminals and a central aperture on the upper edge flanked by two small suspension loops. H: Approximately 7.5cm L: Approximately 9.2cm 73.5g
