A FINE GREEK AGATE SCARAB SEAL ENGRAVED WITH THE THUNDERBOLT OF ZEUS, POSSIBLY CIRCA 5TH–4TH CENTURY BC. - A finely carved Greek agate scarab seal, possibly dating to the 5th–4th century BC, engraved with the thunderbolt of Zeus, the principal attribute of the king of the Olympian gods. The intaglio depicts a stylised winged thunderbolt, crisply rendered with finely incised linear details, symbolising divine authority, power and protection. The reverse is smoothly domed and polished in the traditional scarab form, with a longitudinal perforation for suspension or mounting.
