A KASHAN LUSTRE-PAINTED FRITWARE MIHRAB PANEL, PERSIA - An architectural mihrab panel made from four rectangular fritware tiles, joined together to form one large panel. Decorated in raised relief with cobalt blue and turquoise glaze, with golden-brown lustre decoration. The centre is filled with Arabic inscriptions surrounded by scrolling floral and leaf designs. The upper section is shaped as an arched niche, with turquoise details and further floral decoration. A wide border around the panel contains a continuous Arabic inscription in raised cobalt blue script, with a finer painted inscription around the outer edge. Approximately 127.5 x 55.5 cm.
