AN INDO PERSIAN BRASS CALLIGRAPHIC CHARGER, PERSIA, 19TH CENTURY. - A circular brass charger featuring extensive engraved decoration with a dark filler. The central field contains a floral medallion with the name of Allah at the centre, surrounded by five petals inscribed with the names of the Panj-tan-e Pak: Muhammad, Ali, Fatima, Hasan, and Husain. A secondary band consists of twelve lobed medallions, each containing the name of one of the Twelve Imams, including Ja'far, Musa, and Rida. The wide outer rim is engraved with a continuous calligraphic band of the Ayat al-Kursi (the Throne Verse, Quran 2:255) executed in naskh or thuluth script. The decorative programme is framed by a rope-twist border. D: Approximately 38.1cm
