A QAJAR MARINE BONE DAGGER HILT, PERSIA, 19TH CENTURY. - A carved marine bone hilt for a dagger, likely a khanjar or jambiya, dating to the Qajar period in Persia. The object is of waisted, I-shaped form and is decorated in deep relief on both main faces. The central registers depict two figures in long robes standing amidst a background of scrolling foliate arabesques. The upper and lower sections are bordered by double rows of raised beaded decoration, which enclose horizontal bands of Arabic calligraphy in relief. The ground of the central scenes is textured with fine scrolling patterns. H: Approximately 12cm
