A Pair of Davenport Longport Staffordshire Hand Painted Porcelain Cabinet Plates - A pair of English porcelain plates produced by Davenport of Longport, Staffordshire. Each circular plate features a central hand-painted polychrome landscape vignette. One scene depicts a thatched cottage beside a body of water, while the other shows a stone bridge spanning a stream with a cottage and trees in the background. The wide borders are decorated with a pale sage-green ground overlaid with elaborate gilded floral, foliate, and scroll motifs. The rims are molded and scalloped with a continuous gilded edge. The underside of one plate bears a purple printed backstamp featuring the name DAVENPORT beneath a crown, followed by the words LONGPORT and STAFFORDSHIRE. One plate also retains a handwritten paper label indicating DAVENPORT HAND PAINTED. P.M. MARK. (DATE c. 1830-1845).
