Vintage Reproduction Uncle Sam Mechanical Bank - This is a mechanical bank featuring the figure of Uncle Sam, produced as a 20th-century reproduction of the 1886 original by Shepard Hardware Co. The bank is constructed of polychrome painted cast iron. The figure is depicted with a white goatee, wearing a blue top hat with a single star, a navy blue tailcoat with gold-toned buttons, and white trousers. He holds a green umbrella in his left hand. The figure stands on a rectangular red base which features a raised, gold-painted eagle with outspread wings beneath a scroll banner. At Uncle Sam's feet sits a red satchel marked with the raised letters U.S. The device operates via a lever-activated mechanism located on the top of the base behind the figure's right foot. Depressing the lever lowers the right arm to deposit a coin into the satchel as the jaw moves.
