The auger bits are designed with square shanks for compatibility with a manual hand brace. One set includes bits with a metallic finish that shows significant surface oxidation and pitting. The second set contains bits with a polished steel finish and black-coated flutes; the wooden case for this set is impressed with the size markings 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, and 8. The carpenter's level is constructed of wood with brass mounting plates and a horizontal spirit vial. One brass plate is stamped with the quality mark WARRANTED CORRECT. Both bit storage cases are made of wood and feature metal hinges and latches.
