Manopoulos Minoan Period Themed Chess Set with Storage Case - Manopoulos Minoan Period themed chess set. The set consists of 32 cast metal pieces with brass-tone and silver-tone finishes. The figures are modeled after characters and symbols from Minoan civilization. The queen figure is designed after the Snake Goddess of Knossos, the knights are depicted as rearing horses, and the rooks are shaped as stylized stone towers. Pawns are represented as figures carrying shields and spears. The board features a gold and black checkered surface where the gold squares are decorated with a stylized bull head motif, a prominent symbol of ancient Crete. The border of the board is finished with a continuous spiral wave pattern. The board is elevated by four decorative cast metal feet designed in a classical architectural style resembling column capitals. The set includes its original clear plastic storage and display case with a custom-fitted white foam insert.
