Antique Robert's Patent Square-Jaw Gin Trap - This is an antique single long-spring gin trap featuring the distinctive Robert's patent square-jaw design. Constructed from forged iron, the trap utilizes a square-frame jaw assembly with notched serrations along the upper edges. The trigger mechanism consists of a large square pan plate and a pivoting dog to hold the jaws in the set position. Attached to the base of the spring is a hand-wrought chain featuring long links, an integrated swivel, and a terminal ring. This configuration was a specialized variant common in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. No manufacturer stamps are currently legible on the pan or frame due to significant surface oxidation and iron pitting.
