Antique Forged Iron Toothed Jaw Gin Trap with Chain - This is an antique long spring animal trap, a design commonly known as a gin trap, featuring serrated toothed jaws. The trap is constructed of forged iron and includes a single long spring mechanism, a rectangular trigger pan, and a pivoting dog. The jaws are equipped with interlocking teeth intended to prevent the escape of captured game. A hand forged iron chain is attached to the eye of the spring, consisting of multiple twisted links and ending in a rectangular swivel anchor link. There are no legible manufacturer marks, stamps, or patent dates visible on the pan or spring due to heavy oxidation and surface pitting.
